The Wardens and Vestry of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church and School are pleased to announce that they have called a new Rector, that he has accepted their call, and that the Bishop of Texas, The Rt. Rev. Andy Doyle, has approved the call. Our new Rector is The Rev. David O. Browder, a graduate of the University of Alabama and the Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. David and his wife Kari and their two sons, seven month old Edward and two and a half year old Hank will begin their ministry at St. Thomas’ on Sunday, September 15, 2013.
David earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration with a double major in Marketing and Accounting at the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Dean’s List, completing his degrees in 1998. In 2008, Trinity School for Ministry awarded him a Master of Divinity, Theology, degree.
The Browders come to St. Thomas’ from St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Houston where David has served for the past two years as the Associate Curate for pastoral care and Parish life including, teaching, preaching, and young family ministry and adult formation.
Previously David served the Church of the Apostles in Columbia, South Carolina as the Associate responsible for teaching, pastoral care, preaching and college ministry.
Prior to his call to the ministry, David worked as an analyst with AmSouth Bank, as an accountant with Browder & Associates, P.C, in Birmingham, Alabama and for Whitaker Container Services in South Carolina.
He also served as the Director of Development for U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, who was elected to the House of Representatives (R-AL 1st District) from Alabama.
David loves the depth and breadth of traditional Episcopal worship. He describes his worship style as classical, Cranmerian, and traditional with an emphasis on the proclamation of the gospel and the administration of the sacraments of the Church. He believes strongly in incorporation of others into ministry. “I pray for God’s guidance, recognize gifts in my fellow laborers, and seek to place them in ministries most fitting for them.”
David is active in Mockingbird Ministries and serves as a board member. Mockingbird is a national ministry based in Charlottesville, Virginia that seeks to connect the Christian faith with the realities of everyday life in fresh and down-to-earth ways. Their primary methods for this work are publications, conferences and their web log. David serves as the treasurer.
David’s call comes as a result of an eight-month search process conducted by a Search Committee nominated by the congregation, appointed by the Senior Warden and approved by the vestry. The Committee underwent thorough training, and conducted a nation-wide search of candidates. The choice of David was a unanimous one by both the Committee and the Vestry.
Please join us in welcoming our new Rector and family and pray for David and his family as they make the move to Meyerland and join us in service to the Lord in the years to come.
Gratefully in Christ,
Cat Anderson, Sr. Warden
