Confirmation Classes Begin January 13, 2013

On Sunday, January 13, we’ll launch our Confirmation Class series, culminating in Confirmation Sunday, February 24, at our 10:30 AM service.

At Confirmation, a Christian receives “the laying on of hands” by the Bishop of the Diocese of Texas, and in so doing receives an increase of the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:14-17) and His gifts of grace: “the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and ghostly strength, the spirit of knowledge and true godliness, and […] the spirit of holy fear (BCP, p. 297; see Isaiah 11:2).” Confirmation is both a Christian bar-mitzvah and an ordination to God’s service as the Confirmand accepts the privileges and responsibilities that come with a mature profession of faith in Jesus Christ as one’s Lord and Savior.

At St. Thomas’, children are eligible to be Confirmed in the Sixth Grade; furthermore, many youth and adults who were not able to receive Confirmation instruction during the sixth grade choose to take the class as well. Confirmation is available to every baptized person in the St. Thomas’ community, whether members of the parish or not.

All that are eligible to receive instruction and to be Confirmed this year, are invited to join us in the Library on Sunday, January 13 from 9:05 AM—10:15 AM as we begin this new phase of our journey into discipleship in Christ. These classes will meet each Sunday through February 17, and there will be one additional class on Saturday morning, February 23, from 9 AM-11AM. Those who have already been Confirmed but would like a “refresher course” in the basic claims of the Christian faith are also welcome. Those youth and adults who have never been baptized are also welcome to participate, and may be baptized on a convenient Sunday between now and Confirmation Sunday on February 24.

If you and someone in your household would like to attend this series, please contact Sharon Lambert at 713-559-1632 or click CONFIRMATION REGISTRATION to print a form.

Thank you, and may God bless all our Confirmands and their families.
