Flood Update: School Restart Date Announcement and Volunteer Day

Dear STE Community,

meetingToday the representatives from our school administration, school board, and church vestry met to finalize the plan for K-Bridge through 12th grade to return to school. To accommodate the time it will take to obtain portable buildings, we will be temporarily shifting our Upper School classes to an offsite location and the Middle and Lower Schools will be holding classes in the Upper School building. The temporary location for the Upper School will be announced early next week. We will be providing bus transportation between this location and the STE campus.

Our schedule for returning to school will be as follows:

  • Preschool will return to school Tuesday, September 5 in the current Preschool facility, which was undamaged in the floods. Entry will be by the Indigo Street gate only. The Jackwood and Endicott gates will be closed.
  • Lower and Middle School will return to school on Wednesday, September 13. We will hold an orientation on Tuesday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Upper School building to give parents an opportunity to see the facilities and find their child’s classroom.
  • Upper School will return to school on Wednesday, September 13. We will hold a volunteer day on Monday, September 11, during which students will pack up items from the Upper School building and move them to the new location.

We believe this plan most effectively achieves our goal of opening campus as soon as possible with the least amount of disruption to students. Our administration will be revising our policies and procedures for this transition period. Next week we will share the results of these efforts and be able to provide you with information on student drop-off and pick up, lunch arrangements, transportation to and from school, and other pertinent details.

Thanks to an STE alum, we have quickly secured the services of the restoration company Servpro. Their team started work today and has been faster and more efficient in its work than we had anticipated. We will therefore have a volunteer workday Saturday, September 2, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Our primary need is assistance packing up salvaged material so that Servpro can continue its work. If you can come to the workday tomorrow and have these materials on hand, please bring boxes, scissors, packing tape, and dust masks.

We hope you will join other families from our school, church, and local community us this Sunday for a service at 10:30 a.m. outside the main church doors. After the service, join us for lunch provided by the Friars of Saint Thomas’ Church and managed tours of the campus.

Thank you for all you have done to support us through prayer, offers of help, and willingness to get the word out about our relief efforts. Please continue to spread the word about our campus recovery efforts by sharing the ste.church/flood link. It is through these combined efforts that we are making great progress in reaching our goal.

May God bless you all.
