Dear STE Community,
We have taken some time this Sabbath to reflect on the hard work of the last two weeks and prepare for the return of our students to campus. Just as a reminder:
• Preschool begins classes tomorrow, September 11.
• Our Upper School students will have a workday tomorrow to empty their lockers and prepare for the move to Houston Christian Assembly (HCA). The day will start at 7:45 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m. Students should wear their school uniform and bring a sack lunch and empty backpack.
• Classes for K-Bridge through 12th grade resume Wednesday, September 13.
To our Upper School parents, if you have not completed our Google Form regarding bus transportation to HCA, please do so. This will help our transportation department with their planning.
For K-Bridge through 12th grade parents, remember to take a look at our Hurricane Harvey FAQ to find answers to your questions on the move of Upper School to HCA and Lower and Middle School’s transition to the Upper School building.
If your child is in one of the grades moving to the Upper School building (all Lower and Middle School classes except for 4th and 5th grade), we hope you will visit the Upper School building on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. This informal time will give students an opportunity to find their classrooms.
Make plans to join us for a presentation on strategies for helping our students process the destruction they have witnessed in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. This event will be Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the STE theatre. All STE parents and faculty are invited to attend. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Julie Kaplow, director of the Trauma and Grief Center at Texas Children’s Hospital and an associate professor with Baylor College of Medicine. Childcare will be provided for all Lower and Middle School students who are on campus from the Upper School building visit.
We will again need adult and student volunteers to help work on campus tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. As on previous volunteer days, students under 16 should be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. For STE’s protection, we are asking all volunteers to sign a liability waiver on the first day of volunteer work. If you have them, please bring the following items:
• Circular saws
We are looking forward to seeing our students back in our classes. Please continue to keep our community in your prayers and to spread the word about our fundraising efforts and stesflood.org.
