Dear STE Community,
It was great seeing so many of our families yesterday at our Upper School Parent Night. We hope you had many of your questions answered about the move to Houston Christian Assembly (HCA) and that you feel informed about the steps we took to decide on this temporary move.
We understand that HISD has announced rolling start dates for its schools. The district’s decision will not impact STE’s schedule. Planning for our return to school remains on track and we will adhere to our September 13 start date.
For our Lower and Middle School families, be on the lookout for information on the move to the Upper School building. For now, we can confirm that Healthy Lunch Box will be serving lunch for Lower and Middle School students when classes start on September 13. Visit the Healthy Lunch Box website to access your account and order lunch for your child. After School Care will also return on September 13. With some of our Alley Welcoming Committee headed to the HCA campus, we will need some help greeting our students in the morning. Any parents who are interested, please use this form to sign up. If your schedule works with our needs, Mrs. Bentrup, our Head of Lower School, will be in contact.
Our volunteers have been hard at work on campus continuing the demo and cleanup work. Many of the materials they have pulled out of buildings are now sitting on the curb on Jackwood Street. To ensure that these are picked up by the city, please do not park in front of areas with discarded materials.
Tomorrow we will again need volunteers to work on campus. As on previous days, we will start at 9:00 a.m. Students under 16 must be accompanied by a parent and only adults will be doing the work requiring skilled labor or power tools. For STE’s protection, we are asking all volunteers to sign a liability waiver on the first day of volunteer work. Please also sign in and sign out daily as this helps with our FEMA records.
Mark your calendar for another big volunteer day this Saturday, September 9. We are in need of as many volunteers as possible from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Friars of Saint Thomas’ will be providing sausage on a stick for lunch, or you can bring your own. We will provide water.
Our fundraising efforts through stesflood.org are continuing at full steam. As of today, we have raised over $713,000 in gifts and pledges. We have also learned of a two great matching opportunities from Shell. September 11 through September 22, Shell will run its HERO Double Match Campaign for its employees. Additionally, through Shell’s Disaster Relief Fund, Shell employees and pensioners can make credit card donations and have those matched (up to $7,500 for current employees and $5,500 for retirees). If you are eligible to participate in these opportunities we encourage you to visit Shell’s HERO site and consider a donation to STE.
We hope to see you Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. as we pray for our church and school, as well as our community. We will gather in room 103 of the Upper School building. We also hope to see you and your family this Sunday for a 10:30 a.m. service outside the main church doors. You can come as you are, and a nursery will be available for children two years and younger. Starting September 17, all children through grade 6 are invited to join us for Sunday School starting at 9:15 a.m. and Children’s Church/Catechesis at 10:30 a.m.
Thank you so much for your continued support and prayers.
