Hurricane Update, 9/8

Dear STE Community,

We are looking forward to our students’ return to campus next week. Our Preschool teachers were finishing their preparations today for the start of our Preschool program on Monday, September 11. All our Preschool families were given details about how drop-off and pick-up will work so that any issues can be worked out before our students in K-Bridge and up return on Wednesday, September 13.

Our Lower and Middle School teachers have been busy preparing their classrooms in the Upper School building for their students’ return on Wednesday. We invite our Lower and Middle School parents and students to come visit the Upper School building on Tuesday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. You will be able to see the facilities and find your child’s classroom.

Thank you to all our K-Bridge through 12th grade parents who sent in questions about our flood recovery efforts and our shift in classrooms. We have compiled answers to many of them in our Hurricane Harvey FAQ. This document answers questions about a variety of topics, including uniforms, drop-off and pick-up procedures, plans for Spaghetti Supper, and the school calendar. Please continue to submit your questions to the room parents for your child’s class and we will add them to the FAQ.

The demo and cleanup work for our flood-damaged sections of campus continues. If you are available, join us for another volunteer day Saturday, September 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We need as many volunteers as possible so we can make significant progress in our efforts. Students as well as adults are welcome to come and help, but all students under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. The Friars of Saint Thomas’ will provide sausage on a stick for lunch. If you have them, please bring the following:
• Push brooms
• Mops
• Fans
• Sledgehammers
• Crowbars
• Circular saws

Remember that this Sunday we will have a church service at 10:30 a.m. outside the main church doors. You can come as you are, and a nursery will be available for children two years and younger. We hope you will also mark your calendars for September 17, when our programs for children through grade 6 start: Sunday School, held at 9:15 a.m., and Children’s Church/Catechesis, held at 10:30 a.m.

Thank you for all you have done to support us through prayer, offers of help, and willingness to get the word out about our relief efforts. As of today, we have raised $771,872 in pledges and donations – enough to surpass the immediate goal we had set for this week. If you are a Shell employee or retiree, don’t forget to visit Shell’s HERO site to increase your donation to STE through the HERO Double Match Campaign and Disaster Relief Fund. We ask that everyone continue to spread the word about our campus recovery efforts by sharing the link. It is because of you that we are making great progress.
