Hurricane Update, Sunday, 9/3

Dear STE Community,

flooded churchThe STE campus of today looks very different from the campus of one week ago. We have made an unbelievable amount of progress over the last week. We started with our first visits to a damaged and still-wet campus and moved on to feverish planning meetings with school and church leadership. We even had an impromptu visit from U.S. Congressman John Culberson, who expressed his support for our community and for the entire city of Houston.

Throughout the week our faculty members worked devotedly to sort through damaged items, and by the weekend we were able to welcome volunteers on campus to help with our efforts. Today many of you (plus cameras from NBC News) joined us for our first church service since the storm. With Servpro having much of the remediation work under control, we are ready to put greater focus on preparations for the start of school.

We are pleased to announce that, after an exhaustive search of a number of facilities, we have finalized the temporary location for our Upper School. Houston Christian Assembly (HCA), located in the Westchase area near Westpark and Briarpark, have agreed to let us use their classroom space until we get the temporary buildings set up and ready for use. We believe this location best suits the needs of our Upper School.

We will hold our Upper School Parent Night as planned this Wednesday, September 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the STE theatre. During this time we will have a detailed discussion of why we selected HCA, as well as information regarding the schedule and logistics of the move. Teachers who are able to attend will be present to meet with you and discuss curriculum and expectations. We will continue to send updates on revised policies and procedures for all of our students related to the transition.

We have much work ahead of us, but we are grateful for all that we have accomplished so far. Please continue to keep our community in your prayers and to spread the word about our fundraising efforts and ste.church/flood. We look forward to having our students back on campus soon.
