Hurricane Harvey devastated our community. Many, many of our church and school families and thousands of others in our community lost their homes and belongings to the terrible floods we experienced Sunday, August 27. Our church and school sustained heavy damage. As of Monday morning, due to continued high water and rains, we haven’t been able to fully assess the damage (see the pictures below).
Many of our parishioners and school families, even those who themselves were flooded, have been helping their neighbors and community with heroic acts of rescue, and with open-hearted hospitality. We give thanks to God for them, and our deepest thanks.
We are in prayer for our community and all of the victims of this terrible storm. We will post updates as we can.
In the meantime, we’ve set up two funds for those who have the heart to donate to flood recovery. “Flood Damage Donations” will go towards relief to our community and recovery of our Church and School. To give online using the secure Tithe.ly app, please click the green “Give” button on this page or use this link. You may send checks to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 4900 Jackwood St, Houston, TX 77096. (Note that our church office flooded, and we aren’t sure when it will reopen–earliest possible will be Tuesday, September 5–or when mail service will resume)
Thank you for your concern, your prayers, and your love.
