In addition to our regular Sunday services marking each week of the Church Year, we begin by presenting a Service of Advent Lessons and Carols at 6 pm on Sunday, December 7th. The service begins in darkness and the church will gradually be lit by candlelight as our parish choir sings carols and songs of the season and readers from our parish read lessons from the scriptures telling of the coming of the Messiah.
On Sunday, December 21st at 4 pm, our choir joins with the Houston Brass Band and the St. Thomas’ Episcopal School Pipe Band to present a spectacular concert for Brass, Organ, Choir and Bagpipes. The concert will feature John Rutter’s cantata Gloria, for Brass, Organ and Choir, conducted by the director of the Houston Brass Band, Robert Walp. The grand finale will be an arrangement for Brass, Organ, Choir and Bagpipe – something you will hear nowhere else this Christmas!
Christmas Eve brings three services to mark the birth of our Saviour. The first, our Family Eucharist at Noon, features a Christmas pageant presented by the children of St. Thomas’ and music by our new Treble Choirs of Boys and Girls. The service will be followed by a party in the Murray Center, with a parade of Gingerbread homes, carol singing, cocoa, wassail, pies and cakes.
At 4 pm, we present a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, the classic Anglican service that tells the story of Christmas in song and scripture. The service will feature music by our parish choir, and ample opportunity for the congregation to join in the singing of favorite hymns and carols.
At 11 pm, we will present a traditional Midnight Eucharist, with music by our parish choir and at 10:30 am on Christmas day, we will celebrate with a Choral Eucharist.
Please join with us in celebrating the Nativity of Jesus at one (or more) of our services. You’ll find a warm welcome!
