Beginning Sunday, February 9th, St. Thomas’ will offer Choral Evensong at 3:30 in the afternoon on the second Sunday of each month. The Parish Choir leads the service of Choral Evensong, and sings the psalm, canticles and anthem, providing the opportunity for the congregation to meditate upon the words and music offered to God in praise. The congregation joins the choir in singing the hymns, and in the prayers and intercessions. Our first service of Choral Evensong will be conducted by Ed Franklin, with Dr Giles Brightwell at the organ. The service will include music of C.V. Stanford, Henry Walford Davies, and H. Balfour Gardiner. Evensong (Evening Prayer) is the evening Office of the Episcopal and Anglican churches; its morning counterpart is Matins (Morning Prayer). St. Thomas’ celebrates Morning Prayer Monday through Friday during the school year, and Evening Prayer on Wednesdays and Sundays (when there is not Choral Evensong) throughout the year. On second and fifth Sundays, our main Sunday morning worship service is Choral Matins. Please note that there will not be a 6:15 Evening Prayer service on Sundays when Choral Evensong is scheduled.
