Evensong for Remembrance Day
November 11 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Join the choir of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church and guests at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church for a commemoration of Remembrance Day, the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
On Sunday, 11/11/18, one hundred years to the day after the signing of the Armistice which ended World War I, we will remember all those who have died in war and pray for peace in a service of choral evensong. The texts and music will be drawn from poets and composers who served in or were affected by the war, including music by Claude Debussy, Harold Darke, Ivor Gurney, Herbert Howells, George Dyson, Henry Walford Davies, Charles Ives, and Hubert Parry.
Baritone Christopher Besch will perform songs of the war as a
prelude; soprano Chelsea Helm will appear as soloist with St.
Thomas’ choir in the centerpiece of the service, Harold Darke’s
breath-taking cantata “As the Leaves Fall,” a setting of wartime
poetry by Lieut. Joseph Courtney.
This service will take place at Palmer Memorial Episcopal due to
ongoing renovations of St. Thomas’ Church.
