Maundy Thursday Service
April 18 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
In this solemn service of Holy Communion, we remember Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples before his crucifixion–the meal we remember every time we celebrate Holy Communion–the Lord’s Supper.
During the service, the rector of the parish washes the feet of our vestry and school board, as Jesus’ washed his disciples’ feet, giving them the new commandment “love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34).
The word “Maundy”, by which this day is traditionally known, in fact derives from the Latin word for “commandment”. At the conclusion of the service, the lights are dimmed, the Lord’s table is stripped of all ornament and the crosses are veiled.
